Winemakers may, upon approval of the Assistant Regional Commissioner, use Cold Mix Sparkolloid in the treatment of wine in amounts not exceeding two pounds per 1,000 gallons.

Rev. Rul. 69-57
The Internal Revenue Service has been asked whether "Cold Mix Sparkolloid" may be used as a stabilizing agent in wine.
The use of "Cold Mix Sparkolloid," which is a food grade polysaccharide dispersed in a mixture of white diatomaceous earth and Solka Floc, as a stabilizing agent to stabilize wine in amounts not exceeding 2 pounds per 1,000 gallons of wine is considered as being consistent with good commercial practice within the provisions of 26 CFR 240.524.
Winemakers desiring to use this stabilizing agent in the treatment of wine may obtain approval of the Assistant Regional Commissioner, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, by filing a notice pursuant to the provisions of 26 CFR 240.1052.
